Our Residential Design Process 

Exceptional landscape design starts with getting to know you, your lifestyle, and the unique conditions of your property.

• The Inquiry: Use our Project Inquiry Form to share your project scope (front yard, backyard, or both), anticipated budget, and overall vision. 

• The Discovery Phase: We review your submission to ensure our design studio is the right fit and invite you to complete our Project Discovery Questionnaire. This comprehensive step allows us to gather your property information and dive deeply into your aesthetic preferences, functional must-haves, and lifestyle requirements.

• The Design Proposal: Equipped with a clear understanding of your vision and site conditions, we prepare a custom Design Proposal. This document outlines the scope, fees, and next steps to initiate your Conceptual Design Phase.

To kick off the fun part—the design—Phase 1 (Pre-Design) and Phase 2 (Schematic Design) are completed together. We want you to be absolutely thrilled with the vision before we move into the technical details.

• Pre-Design & Site Analysis: We start with an on-site assessment to evaluate existing conditions and municipal boundaries. We then develop the project program requirements, an inspiration board, and bubble diagrams based on your specific needs.  

• Concept Development: We present 2D layout options that explore functional zoning, circulation, and initial material and planting concepts.  

• The Concept Review: At the end of this phase, we meet to review the complete conceptual design package. We evaluate the proposed options together so you can confidently select a preferred direction for your outdoor space.  

nce you are completely in love with the Conceptual Design, we get to work engineering the precise details required to build it. It is during this phase that we carefully specify the exact materials and plants that can handle the harsh freeze-thaw cycles of our climate.

• Technical Drawings: We translate the approved concept into a comprehensive drawing set for contractor coordination. This meticulous package includes AutoCAD layout plans, material plans, planting plans, and a conceptual grading plan.  

• Ready to Build: These clear, accurate blueprints ensure that when you ask different contractors for a quote, they are bidding on the exact same design, allowing you to compare prices confidently. 

A stunning design deserves a flawless execution. We offer optional services to help you navigate the construction phase with ease.

• Contractor Coordination: We can review contractor bids to ensure everything aligns with the design.

• Site Observation: We offer limited construction observation to verify that the built landscape matches our design intent and quality standards.
